Learning and Development Practitioner

Apprenticeship Overview

Learning and Development Practitioners are responsible for identifying training needs, designing and delivering learning solutions, and evaluating their impact. Their expertise can range from technical and vocational to behavioural skills, ensuring training is aligned with business goals and performance. They may specialise in areas like learning design, e-learning, or blended learning, with a forward-looking approach that may include sustainability strategies such as the UK’s net-zero carbon target.

Working across private, public, and third sectors, L&D Practitioners support workplace performance at individual, team, and organisational levels, collaborating with HR teams, business leaders, and Subject Matter Experts.

Learning and Development Practitioner EPA

The EPA consists of two end-point assessments.

EPA1 – Work-based project with professional discussion

A 2,250-word work-based project requiring the implementation of a learning and development solution to a real business problem, submitted by the end of month four of the EPA period.

A 60-minute two-way discussion based on the work-based project, which involves both the independent assessor and the apprentice actively listening and participating in a formal conversation.

EPA2 – Presentation based on learning journal

A presentation based on the learning journal will be presented to an independent assessor, this will be followed by a questioning session; the presentation will take 20 minutes, and the questioning will take 25 minutes.

Grading

Apprentices must pass both EPAs (1 & 2) to successfully complete their apprenticeship. Grades awarded are fail, pass, merit or distinction. Apprentices will receive their grade ten working days after completing their final assessment method.
